What an honor it is to address you as the 2009/2010 Rotary Club of New Bedford President!
Having been an active Rotarian since August 1995 I have had the honor to serve with over 250 Rotarians in three different clubs. Almost without exception each of these men and women has taught me some valuable lesson about what it means to be a Rotarian and to live the Four Way Test.
Looking at the cross section of a typical Rotary Club you will find leadership as a common thread. Rotarians lead in their work and in their community. Another characteristic of a Rotarian that has struck me since I joined Rotary is the willingness to say "yes" when asked to help on a project or in a committee. This message is being written two weeks into my President's Year and I think I have asked every member of our club to commit to some event, program or committee and with very few exceptions I have been greeted with a "no problem", or "sure I will", or "you can count on me". We can and will make a huge difference with Rotarians like you.
We have much to do in the coming year but I have every confidence that we will meet and exceed our goals. If you have the slightest doubt we will be successful I suggest at the next meeting take a good look around the room and you will see what I see from the podium each week, a group of wonderful Rotarians making a difference in the lives of those in our community and in the world.
My year will come and go in the wink of an eye but Rotary will last as long as men and women come together for fun, fellowship and to light a candle against the darkness in the world.
Believe in Rotary because Rotary believes in you!
